SecureSMS Micro Client

The CellTrust SecureSMS® Micro Client is a lightweight application that installs on the handset for communicating with the SecureSMS Gateway. Its size ranges between 250 - 650 KB. It is designed to seamlessly run on various types of feature phones as well as smart phones on both SIM and non-SIM devices (GSM and CDMA). The application is similar to a native SMS editor and encrypts outgoing secure messages as well as decrypts incoming secure messages. When configured as such, the SecureSMS® Micro Client provides a definitive indication to the sender when a message has been delivered, and again when the message has been read. The Micro Client utilizes only the SMS channel to communicate with the Gateway and does not require a data plan.

Micro Client Architecture

The SecureSMS® Micro Client has been developed using the Secure Mobile Information Management (SMIM) engine, which is the foundation of CellTrust's secure mobile communication technology. The GUI portion of the Micro Client is entirely standalone and all communications are through a set of APIs that are provided by SMIM for communication between the Micro Client and Gateway. The architecture greatly simplifies GUI alterations and allows for future enhancements such as mobile-payment menu systems or language localization. Furthermore, the existing Micro Client GUI is modular and takes advantage of resource files for localization, hence making it possible for the Micro Client GUI to support other languages including Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. The SMIM natively supports messages in double byte character set and SecureSMS® software is currently being used as such in applicable regions.

Micro Client Installation

The Micro Client is installed on the mobile device using several methods including the use of data cables or MicroSD cards. Subscribers can also text to a specific short code and request a link to download the applicable Micro Client.

In a Carrier environment, the Micro Client can be preloaded onto the device or made available from the Carrier's application site.
